4 Tips for Decorating Your New Home

Moving into a new home is an exciting adventure! That liberating feeling you get from having a brand-new space to call your own is accompanied by the endless possibilities of decorating each room to fit your personal style and needs. If you’ve just moved into a new place, here are four fun tips for embellishing your house.

1. Get creative with wallpaper

Wallpaper was once the wall treatment that everyone wanted in his or her home, and the classic trend has circled back since its first debut. Thanks to the intricate work of designers, there are thousands of different colors, patterns and styles to choose from, suiting any space – big or small. If you don’t want to cover the entire room, create an accent wall by only putting wallpaper on one section. You can also decorate with wallpaper in unconventional places, like placing it on the back wall of a bookshelf, or by framing several different types to hang as wall art.

2. Hang a gallery wall

While it’s still nice to hang a few photographs of a favorite memory around your home, you can take it to the next level by forming a gallery wall. Choose the one wall that has a decent amount of space to work with, and gather picture frames, wall décor and unique accents to hang together. You can get really crafty with this, as the best looking gallery walls are those that feature objects of different sizes and shapes. While purchasing items to hang, make sure that you tailor it to the style you want in that specific room, whether it’s got a south-west bohemian style or a refined rustic feel!

3. Give it a new paint job

Before closing on a home, it’s more than likely you’ve spent a good amount of time in its interior, dreaming of all the ways you want to make it your own. Applying a fresh coat of paint to each room may be a simple decorating tip, but it really goes a long way. Be sure to consult a painting professional regarding what type of paint finish would look best in the room you are working on. It’s also a good idea to shop at a paint store where they have everything you need and professionals that can guide you to the right type of paint for your project. Decide on whether or not you’d like to keep the house uniform, painting every room the same color, or if you want to change it up a bit from room to room!

4. Incorporate accent pieces

Giving each a room its own special flair is made easy thanks to accent items, be it furniture, a rug or a piece of artwork. Make sure to go along with the color theme you’ve already established in your space! Keep in mind that the point of an accent piece is to stand out visually, making the room come to life. A bright blue upholstered chair would be a great accent piece inside a light gray room, and an extravagant pink floral arrangement would really pop in a muted yellow space.
